Energyline Kenia is ontstaan toen Marike in 2012 bijna een jaar in Kenia heeft gewoond tijdens het adoptieproces van haar zoon Deric Taji.
Verliefd op Kenia en supergelukkig met haar zoon Deric besloot Marike na terugkomst in Nederland dat ze iets moest doen met alle schitterende ervaringen en contacten die zij en Deric in Kenia hebben opgedaan.
Haar eigen bedrijf ENERGYLINE dat sinds 2006 bestaat is daarom in 2013 uitgebreid met een nieuwe tak, ENERGYLINE KENIA. Ze importeerde handgemaakte tassen en kikoy badhanddoeken en probeerde de lokale bevolking en de weeskinderen hiermee te helpen. Na de corona crisis werden de vervoerstarieven dusdanig hoog dat zij noodgedwongen een andere richting op moest.
Marike schreef in die tijdbhaar 1e boek De weg naar Deric Taji. Nu in 2026 is haar 2e boek Are you ever happy? gepubliceerd en wordt de site energylinekenia gebruikt om haar boeken te promoten.
Are you ever happy is een heerlijk kinderboek met leuke plaatjes dat kinderen, ouders en scholen kunnen gebruiken om de jeugd van tegenwoordig meer bewustzijn voor zichzelf en voor de natuur bij te brengen. En ook om ze te laten nadenken over wat zij kunnen doen om de wereld in de toekomst een stukje mooier te maken.
The Story Behind Energyline Kenya
Energyline Kenya was founded after Marike spent nearly a year in Kenya in 2012 during the adoption journey of her son, Deric Taji.
During her time in Kenya, she fell in love with the country, its people, and its rich culture. The experience changed her life forever. Inspired by the warm relationships she built and deeply grateful for becoming Deric’s mother, Marike returned to the Netherlands with a clear mission: to create something that would continue supporting the people and communities that had touched her heart.
In 2013, she expanded her company, ENERGYLINE, which she had founded in 2006, by launching Energyline Kenya. Initially, the business imported handmade bags and traditional Kikoy beach towels, creating opportunities for local artisans while helping support vulnerable children and communities in Kenya.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, international shipping costs rose dramatically, making it no longer sustainable to continue importing these products. Rather than ending the journey, Marike chose a new path.
During this period, she wrote her first book, The Road to Deric Taji, sharing the remarkable story of her adoption journey.
Today, in 2026, Energyline Kenya has evolved into a platform dedicated to promoting Marike’s books and the values that have inspired her work from the very beginning: love, hope, personal growth, and making a positive difference in the world.
Her second book, Are You Ever Happy?, is a beautifully illustrated children’s book that encourages young readers to become more aware of themselves, the people around them, and the natural world. It invites children, parents, and educators to start meaningful conversations about kindness, gratitude, responsibility, and the small actions each of us can take to create a brighter future.
